Che Guevara Wannabe Poem by Edmund V. Strolis

Che Guevara Wannabe

Rating: 5.0

Dressed in black from head to toe
A 21st century Che Guevara wannabe
With tunnel vision and an I-Phone
Tiny apple rotting under a family tree

A dirty scarf bandit hiding a puffy face
So bold in the land of free speech
Just don't try it in that tyrant Putin's place
Go to North Korea and let's hear you preach

Coagulate, shout down and silence debate
All in defense of tolerance and love
Hypocrisy in motion, frothing with hate
I call it like I see it and I have seen enough

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
'But when you talk about destruction
Don't you know that you can count me out'
-John Lennon

When you shout down a speaker at a university, block citizens from attending a rally you oppose, resort to rioting and destruction you are the enemy of liberty.

The First Amendment to the United States Constitution prohibits the making of any law respecting an establishment of religion, impeding the free exercise of religion, abridging the freedom of speech, infringing on the freedom of the press, interfering with the right to peaceably assemble...

Well, the real meaning of liberty is lost upon most of us. It's a thought-provoking political write. People must fight for their rights in a peaceful way and the governments must let people speak for their rights. Oppression is not the answer. Civil liberty is every individual's right.

If there was a way to know you would find that the writers from America and elsewhere are all under one tent. The easy tent of supposed open-mindedness. Where are their writings against such obstruction to their fellow citizens rights? You will not find me in league with them. I care nothing about being popular. I am that rare creature a conservative independent open to true liberal ideas and not to the cookie-cutter mentality that looks the other way when injustice is done to those they disagree with. That is why I am a fan of John Lennon, a rare free thinker gone from a world divided deeply.

Definitely food for thought. It's true what they say about not knowing what's going on in another country unless you actually live there. This poem for some reason surprised me and I'm not easily surprised. These people totally abuse their right of freedom of speech. I'm not one for politics and I almost always avoid the subject but you bought out my feeling of justice and fairness. One influential person can do a lot of damage.

I would love more than anything not to write anything political but there are those that want to silence opposite viewpoints. People that respond to criticism with verbal and physical attempts to shut down anything that they do not like. They do so through the education system, through the media, by means of labeling others as racist or whatever label works for them. Very Orwellian. That crazy part is that they view themselves as some sort of noble freedom-fighters when in fact they are fighters of freedom. They call others fascist while attempting to physically intimidate or keep others from being able to assemble under their own banner. They are the opposite of what this country was meant to be and the media/entertainment/political/education machine enables and encourages the cowards. A very dangerous thing to do.
