Safe Travels Poem by Edmund V. Strolis

Safe Travels

Rating: 4.7

Bull elephant is what they call you
Big name, big beast
They do not do you justice
What do you call yourself?

You are the earth cracked and weathered
Time encased in perfection
All that gravity will bear
Mountain muscle moving

And yet I am your equal
Two eyes, two ears, four limbs a nose
Our earthly trademark
Glowing in the universe

I marvel at you, do you at me?
Respectful in our distance
Brother beast I salute you
And wish your family safe travels

Finally! Edmund Strolis is poet of the day! Congrats Edmund. I had missed this poem. Love it. Well written. I love that line you are the earth cracked and weathered. The only thing I ask is that you include a sketch with this one. You have a way of peering into all creatures and bringing out the unique and special in their character. Thanks for sharing your poem.

I have translated this poem into Cantonese:

Brother beast I salute you And wish your family safe travels I wish this bonhomie between man and the lovely wild life prevails for all times to come. Their co-existence will ensure the charm and worth of life on this planet. Lovely poem. Thanks.

Yes indeed Rajnish, thank you for your kind words. Yes co-existence, we are well aware that there are those that selfishly harvest them for their tusks and yet those lost souls do not represent our race. When we as people are not jostled at the watering hole of life we are respecters and protectors of our brothers. I believe that at the core we are good.

May your favorite creature live on long after our shadows have past from this land.

Congratulations on poem of the day. The gentle giant is the elephant. May each one wander freely and safely in and around. A beautiful poem. Thanks for the sharing.

Yes the gentle giant. We have much to learn from him or at the very least we should give him a wide range to follow his ancient footsteps.
