Chief Joseph
'I will fight no more forever.'
Echoed Chief Joseph in defeat.
Then, watched his remaining tribe
Guarded off to an Idaho retreat.
The protector of the Northwest land,
Great leader of Nez Perce nation
Now lay buried on same soil
That nurtured him to adulation.
