Child Leaving Home Poem by Randy McClave

Child Leaving Home

When a child no longer suckles their mother's breast
It is about time for them to leave the nest,
Their mother needs to pack up her worries and their clothes
And be supportive and happy for the road that they chose.
A child to their mother is about everything
They cause their mother's soul and heart first to sing,
She raises them to adulthood, so they know that they can
While that child becomes a functioning, woman or man.
A mother is with their child every single day of their life
Where problems and solutions were always rife,
"Why should I do this", "and not to do or say that"
Now they are just memories that are pulled from a hat.
And when that destined day does unwontedly arrive
The mother is depressed and ponders how can she survive,
There is a sadness and a pain as she is all alone
And to whom now can she cry, and to who can she atone.
When that bird from the nest excitedly and proudly flies away
It too will construct and build it's very own nest one day,
Now the mother will reflect back at her first major quest
She once was that excited bird, that flew away from the nest.
