Childcare Poem by Sankhajit Bhattacharjee

Childcare

Marriage outside community is forbidden
like Indian dogs at British Courts.
When her husband left her,
the choice was between child or community.
Food decided all
as both had to survive.
Children are safe at childcare
and women are safe
within their own community.
Assurances came from childcare
like a delightful morn after new moon-
none would disclose the child's identity
for its utter security.

Marriage is something
that never obeys logical science,
rather it obeys blind religion.
It's like a gray vulture-
the white dove's meat is its food.
Generosity is best judged by
choosing of life partners.

The mother returned to her community.
She was welcomed heartily
as her sin was not in her lap.
The father might be planning to play
the same game with another-
a professional hunter always-
though he never claimed lives.

The child would grow
as a so-called orphan
like a river,
which enters a desert by mistake
before reaching the sea,
hence loses her utter identity!
