Childless - Poem by Hasmukh Amathalal

He died childless
But no regret on face
Worries had no place

What if son proved useless?
Daughter proved careless
All my work could have gone fruitless

I am satisfied
With whatever I did
I shall live in memory as not dead

One great statesman said” I have jawahar* (pearl)
Think if I had another one not honhaar*(not worth)
The life would then have been bekaar*(useless)

Yes. Better to be childless than have useless progeny. Well said Mehta Sir!
