Childlike. Poem by Robert Omondi

Childlike.

The little girl looked up
a little smile upon a face
that expressed calm and peace.
Her dainty feet jumped over the little pools,
her left hand played with the flowers,
grabbing at a petal, marveling at the colors
and even when the earth quaked
trembling with shock wave after shock wave,
she knelt down and felt the ground
and even when the rain fell and thunder struck
making her frock drip and ears sing,
she shook her head
and then stuck her tongue out
to catch the falling raindrops,
and when the sun shone
with the rainbow smiling across the heavens,
she raised her left hand to the sky and waved
all this while her left hand never left its anchor:
the hand of He who cared.
She had faith, the faith of a child.
She was truly childlike.
