A Reply To Maya Angelou's 'I Know Why Caged Bird Sings'. Poem by Robert Omondi

A Reply To Maya Angelou's 'I Know Why Caged Bird Sings'.

My reply to you,
my dear Angelou,
of the bird that sings,
through the cage rings,
is that the bird does sing
not because it is free,
as a bird would be,
out in the sky,
but it is the caged bird that does sing
with its beak held high,
the bird that still knows
that deep in its soul,
it still has a song
with a tune so powerful and strong
to go through the cage
and be listened to by a sage
who will then say,
Deep in that tune,
lies a freedom so free and immune,
to the caged rings,
that hold the bird,
and as the bird sings,
I too, will fight for it to be free.
The caged bird
that is still able to sing,
invites yet another bud
to flower
and continue with the freedom ring
that is the bird's power.
