Cicada Time Poem by Juan Olivarez

Cicada Time

Like tiny little motors,
They sputter, then catch.
Flocking like mad voters,
It's the new years fresh hatch.

Their songs drown out everything,
All over for miles.
As they start to sing,
For a very short while.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
One of the pleasures of living in deep south texas, is the annual coming of the Cicadas. Each year a new hatch make their way above ground, ditch their old threads climb the nearest tree and start entoning their songs.my sons on deployment would always ask, 'are the cicadas out yet? '
