City Snow Poem by Harlan Simantel

City Snow

He wrapped our city in snow
didn't say a word
just a quiet gift
of beauty
this christmas season

slow down
take time off work
enjoy each other
sleep in
notice the beauty of nature
i made for you
He seems to imply
without saying it

the bow is the lights on trees
lining the avenues
and also the kids who play
they decorate the snow
with chatter and laughter

is it life and living -
or rushing and buying -
we're after?

Jewish version...

He wrapped our city in snow
didn't say a word
just a quiet gift
of beauty
this Hanukkah season

slow down
take time off work
enjoy each other
sleep in
notice the beauty of nature
i made for you
He seems to imply
without saying it

the bow is the lights on trees
lining the avenues
and also the kids who play
they decorate the snow
with chatter and laughter

is it life and living -
or rushing and buying -
we're after?

We overlook the small things a lot.
