Cling To Me Poem by Suzanne Hayasaki

Cling To Me

Cling to me
Like a vine to a cliff
Like a babe to a breast
Like frost to a frond
Like a beach to the sea.

Cling to me!
Dig your tendrils into every crevice.
Patiently make your way up my face
Until you crest my Mt. Everest.
Prove to me that I am not insurmountable.

Cling to me!
Demand my attention!
Block out everything else in my world
With the radiance of your dependency.
Remind me that my life is not my own.

Cling to me!
Sting me with your chilling bite.
Cover my green with your white.
Create your stellar patterns on my surfaces.
Bring home to me my mortality.

Cling to me!
Even as I recede.
Go on forever under my surface.
Make it clear that there is no leaving you.
And I will forever rush back in
To cover you in my love.
