Close To Him Poem by Phil Daniels

Close To Him

Oh to be so close to Him
No selfish fancies or whim
Indispensable friend day by day
Only doing what He say
He is the trunk of that big tree
I want to be a branch of He
And even if I'm only a stem
I know He delights in all of them
But that stem it should grow
Or He says it must go

So read His word and that obey
Or you'll stop the flow and drop away
Deciduous leaves fall cos no sap
Unaccepted bible pages leave a gap
But evergreen faith is His desire
For all pruned branches end in fire
Because lukewarm thou art
Neither cold or hot, He'll say depart
And from His mouth He will spew
Whether many or oh so few

If with Him you are constant
He knows your need and every want
He'll look upon with loving eyes
And grant your wishes and desires
As long as Christ in your heart instil
And walk with God until
You have done what He did ask
Complete and full every task
And then to see Him smile and you call
Up to His house His banquet hall
