Closed Eyes Poem by Emma Atkinson

Closed Eyes

Rating: 5.0

If I were to close my eyes,
Breathe you in,
Not knowing where
Your heartbeat ends
Or mine begins,
Not knowing how
I haven't been turned to ashes
By the embers in your eyes,
Shielding myself
Behind closed lashes
I am afraid to open
To see what lies there,
Not knowing why
The stilled air
Neither of us
Dares to breathe
Is made of waves, of sparks,
Knowing only
I cannot leave
Because some force
More powerful than either of us
Chains me there,
Then would I know,
What it is that lies
Between us,
If I were but to open my eyes?
