Codename: Your Hero - Poem by John W. McEwers

One step after another
like walking,
which I was,
and so were you,
down the sidewalk.

You weren't going where I was going
but I thought I'd ask you if you wanted to walk together anyway.

You didn't.

But you didn't know me for who I was.
The guy who could've been your hero.
