Colours Of Dashain

Nine colours for nine days
Good fortune and good wealth
Festival of Dashain
Yellow for Pratipada
Pink for Dwitiya
Saffron for Tritiya
Orange for Chauthi
Maroon for Panchami
Amber for Sasthi
Green for Saptami
Red for Astami
Crimson for Nawami
Shades of red and yellow
    with ample of green
         for Dashami to Purnima
Good fortune and good health
Colours of Dashain

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Mid of Autumn, in Nepal, brings new tidings of joy, Dashain, a 15 days festival starting with Ghatsthapana Day (New Moon) to Kojagrat Poornimaa Day (Full Moon) . Each of the first nine days has special colour significance. The entire 15 days festival is related to good harvest of crops, plenty of food and happiness of people. Modern day Nepalese people are all descendents of farmers, hence on first day of Dashain, i.e., Ghatasthapana, people sow cereal crop seeds and their colour is yellow. On the seventh day, Fulpati, the seeds sprout and they are green saplings now. In next three days they grow taller and may be half green, half yellow..
