Confess Poem by Kemberly Semana Penton

Confess

Gentle and meek, clothed in white
Out of thy mouth were words of light
Refined was thee in everyone's sight;
Stood brazenly in a sinners' crowd
Stunned upon the beauty of thy sound
Thine was the voice when I was found.

Be thou assured of a woman's loyalty
Smoke of ten incenses I burned, I pray
To God above I besought for the way;
I knew the thought was inconvincible
Such act of love to thee was impermissible
But this Iove of mine was indisputably noble.

Black was the sin as of mine purpose
Into that sacred chamber to thee I proposed
For years of secrecy, love was aroused;
I paused and listened to thy saintly answer
Assumed and hoped but thou art so clever
Said thy love for God was all to thee that matter.

Consumed was I of hatred and love to thee
Breath of life, I had no life to breathe, you see
And hitherto I let go of you, say you loved me;
Heard thy forlorn words so as to speak
A deed I long conceived was oft I break
But now without thy vow of love I was a wreck.

Thy blessed name was on the dying lips of mine
Eyes were shut by the taste of a poisonous wine
For I was not loved back of this I didn't whine;
To follow thee through the gates of Hades
To die a martyr of thy love this I confess
To live and die in single blessedness.
