Conflict With Interests Poem by Chris Higginson

Conflict With Interests

It seems the Aussie Government acquired some recent doubts
(Because the rain once heaven-sent is absent ‘cause of droughts)
It’s whether farming subsidies should continue to be paid
Or if the beneficiaries, “Should leave the land.” He said
Howard then went on to say, “That’s not quite what I mean,
But each and every passing day committees will convene
To see if we can find some way to make the farmers go
And start again in urban maze like Perth or Bangalow.”

It’s tricky for a Head of State to say to farmers “Go! ”
Although the public can debate, opinions ebb and flow
But Howard just might get a hint from someone he calls “Mate! ”
A PM who has had a stint, ‘though people might debate
If the methods he has used are legal and are fair
That shouldn’t worry Howard, he helped to put him there
So getting farmers off the land is simple don’t you see
Use the methods of the band of thugs of Mugabe!
