Conspiracy Theories even In Sports Poem by Tor Magnor Solvang

Conspiracy Theories even In Sports

When Norway falls, we want it to sting less.
To find a reason, ease the hurt and stress.
But some now whisper, in shadows they creep,
Of FIFA's grand plan, secrets they keep.

They say big nations, must always remain,
And camera wires played a role in the pain.
That refs have a script, a pattern untold,
A story of bias, brave hearts growing cold.

'Just asking questions, ' the familiar refrain,
The same words we scorn, again and again.
When others claim rigged, and outcomes denied,
We shake our heads then, with judgement applied.

But when our own team, by defeat is met,
We too can fall prey, to the same dark net.
The truth is much simpler, less drama, more plain,
A close-fought encounter, a shower of rain.

Norway and England, a match side by side,
Moments of brilliance, where chances did ride.
The margins were narrow, they swayed and they turned,
A goal disallowed, a lesson unlearned.

But this isn't a plot, by FIFA so vast,
To keep titans playing, their shadows they cast.
Football is fickle, by fine lines it's swayed,
Sometimes it's with you, sometimes you're betrayed.

That's a far truer tale, than a conspiracy spun,
A grand, hidden game, by the powerful done.
To claim this of sports, so beloved and so wide,
Is devastating and sadly, a Trump-like stride.

Norway lost closely, the fact remains stark,
And it's not more complex, to find the true mark.
The best we can offer, this team we hold dear,
Is to see their great effort, and banish all fear.

They played a bright chapter, pushed England so near,
Lost a tight contest, with nothing to fear.
No shame in the losing, no need for deceit,
Just a brilliant team, in a game bittersweet.
