Contemplating One's Navel Poem by Warren Brown

Contemplating One's Navel

Rating: 5.0

This world of ours is rough and tough
You've gotta be on top of your capers
Othewise you'll end up being the stuff
We'll all read about in the papers!

Life is pretty much like a circus ring
Which sometimes runs at full throttle
Easy to get on, gettin' off is the thing
Can be enough to drive you to the bottle!

This is what the Missus has said:
Slow down, get your act together
And show a little patience - God forbid!
But there's drones enough and I'm a goer!

Get both feet square upon the ground
I suppose, must be "Rule Number One'
And what goes around must come around
When does one realise that life is but a pun?

So here I am, a-contemplating my sins
A-contemplating my lot in life
And it jars, the things I've not done
‘Cos my family wore the risks and the strife.

So before you slip and fall from grace
Think hard old Son on this piece of advice
"Go Hard or Go Home" sort of sets the pace
But when you get home put it all to one side

And sit, and talk to the Missus and kids
And when at last they've wandered off
Lean back and contemplate your navel
Ask yourself what you might have done better!
