'Ngaire', It's Just For You Poem by Warren Brown

'Ngaire', It's Just For You

My Mother-in-Law is very sweet
She has the nicest twinkling eyes
Ngaire is her name, no others
I'm not sure what it means.

She is a wonderful person and
I love her truly (and I think she loves me too)
I sometimes take the mickey
But she can give as good as I can do.

She has a goodly streak of devilment
(when the moment's right)
To goad her middle son-in-law
And put him in his place.

And stubborn she can be, at times
When things don't suit her right
Athol rules the roost alright
But only with permission!

She doesn't like you bossing her
She can get very cross
But, she melts when flowers are presented
By her middle son-in-law.

The future is unknown
But, we will hold her hand
And she'll sure be sore
If Athol goes before.

And if it turns out later
That Athol's left behind
We'd want for her to know
We'll tend to him, to him we will be kind.

But, death, its coming to us all
And the family is the thing
That binds us all together
And we will stick together, thru it all!

And later, I may breed a rose
Of finest crimson hue -
With perfume oh so fragrant
And name it Ngaire, just for you!
