Contender, If Only

Rating: 0.5

Fearful I would never remember
or my eyes never again set
upon 'eschscholzia',
I keened:
Live long enough
or read this regret
and you'll find that I,
the showy California Poppy,
am of the genus Echschol(t) zia,
after Eschscholtz,
J.W. von.
If only he'd done
away with the Esch,
I coulda been the showy Schol(t) z.
