Contradiction Poem by Jade Leven

Contradiction

I let the moon go through its phases
strategically backing out in stages
from a love that I could never hope to have

having arms around you isn't best
you'll be fading out with all the rest
when all is said and done, it only makes you sad

because you can write to Romeo
and he can write to you
but in the end, what you believed won't matter
half as much as what was true

raising their hopes up high
they are so hopeless
calling out to the night
they are so speechless
making love to their dreams
well, keep dreaming
your dreams will never come to you
