Control Poem by Ibn Ali

Control

Kindo told me
'trust is good: but control is better'
I trust the beast but keep the leash
He may be friendly but keep him tethered
In control, in hand, not severed
To have, to hold and in turn cherish
Put lids on secrets
Close the faucet
They won't keep it
If you can't hold it
You've failed yourself
So were failed by others
Now your behest is someone else's
Hasty tongues in need of talking
Will convey What's most important
Not their own: but your remorses
They ate it all and doled out portions
A bird in hand though untame
Would remain and never scatter
But to hand it to a friend
He may falter if it flutters
