Conversations Iii Poem by Cait Oiler

Conversations Iii

You've smothered me in feelings of the past,
Almost every sentence begins with, 'Remember the time…'
With each breath,
My soul drifts further away,
I wish you would stop,
Lay those times to rest,
But you can't…
Each word is a violent blow to my heart,
I wear my smile as a shield,
Fumbling for an excuse to leave,
I can't…
Those eyes draw me in,
And before I know it,
I'm sucked into the past,
Drowning in those hazel eyes,
Reliving the days long since passed,
Loving you,
Holding you,
'Remember the time…' You say,
I smile,
Shield broken,
Being consumed by feelings I thought were lost.
