Daniel Keeps The Elephants Poem by Cait Oiler

Daniel Keeps The Elephants

Daniel,
Why has the world turned colder now that you’ve left?
I use to pretend I crashed into you every day,
But the impact never felt right,
I wish I could tell you it all,
You and I both know that story is too long,
Too many mistakes,
Too many second chances,
God, I miss you.
I shouldn’t, but can’t we talk about something else?

Myself, I am fine,
I see the world everyday as if it’s newer than before,
The sky shines down brilliant golden rays,
The snow falls quietly,
And I submerge myself into every spring day,
Free falling into a field somewhere,
Somewhere where we had a picnic once,
Somewhere where I thought we’d go on forever,

It looks like there’s tears in your eyes,
But you say it isn’t so,
You say the elephant has left the room,
But I’m looking into your eyes,

You know that I know,
I remember everything.
