Cordell’s Early Days Poem by Marilyn Lott

Cordell’s Early Days

Don’t you love to look at old photos
Way back in the long ago days?
So much has changed since then
Compared with up-to-date modern ways

The cars were in their infancy
Stylish back in the day
But time marches on of course
Nothing stays the same ‘ole way

Like Cordell, Oklahoma was
In old great black and white pictures
Life was difficult in every way
No electricity or modern fixtures

Native American and pioneers
Was the blend of folks back then
Just doing what they had to do
To make a home and life for their kin

Those were days that were tough
Building new homesteads and towns
Scraped together from nothing
Hoping to build on fertile ground

We sure have a lot to be thankful for
As we see photos of difficult ways
Ah yes, life was quite a challenge then
As we look back on Cordell early days!
