Corona Virus Poem by Dolat Ram

Corona Virus

A priest in robe reads from a holy book
this disaster as well
will soon pass off precisely the same way
as did many in the past
just do not give up and believe in Him
god's mill grinds slow but sure

With high hopes, on a blank shred of paper
a white-clad doctor panic-prescribes a life-saver
but as the PPE-covered nurse with heartening smile
gently walks over to the patient
holding up a syringe filled with a grayish fluid,
an encrypted warning echoes in the sky
‘You are too inept to impede the inevitable'

Cries in shame
an omnipotent clique of N-powers
as an amorphous enemy slaps in the face
and dents their atomic arrogance
with no messiah in sight

My grandkids binge-watch with great gusto
a bone-chilling show called ‘Apocalypse'
in which the living play the dead
and the earth morphs into a ghost town
at the end

Amid howls of the dying and their kinfolk
vultures feast on the corpse and carrion
courtesy: human folly amassed over the eons
