I lie in bed,
Awake at night,
No sleep because of fear.
Outside a noise,
I flip my light,
And creep to window near.
I peer outside,
I look around,
And scan the darkness deep.
Yet nothing's there,
To blame the sound,
I laugh and go to sleep.
Again I wake,
Another crash,
A person heard inside.
I jump from bed,
To closet dash,
And search the dark to hide.
My heart is fast,
It fuels my fear,
I crouch beneath a coat.
I hold my breath,
But breath I hear,
cold hands then grip my throat.
