Crimson Orbs Poem by Edmund V. Strolis

Crimson Orbs

Shaken from the deepest slumber
Eyes like saucers staring wild
Midnight storms of rain and thunder
Had never scared me as a child
Yet here a man in darkness shaking
No longer reserved and dignified
The shadows in the corners making
An apparition with searching eyes

I prayed within the darkness to hide
I did not breathe nor dare turn my head
These crimson orbs now burned so bright
Casting reflections upon the brass post bed
What unearthly phantom had landed here?
The clock and all of time had stopped
The ghastly form was all too clear
The eyes from within the well she was dropped

I must admit I do enjoy a good tribute to the master Edgar Allan Poe now and again.....

Wow. The reader is definitely in the grip of suspense n thrill. A very gripping read. Im on the edge of my seat. It had the effect the poet intended.

Thank you so much Nosheen although in horror it is a slight fantasy compared to your poem wherein the two lovers meet and are murdered. I assume that this was based on a true story.
