Crithomancy

From the Greek for 'barley', 'krithey'
and 'manteia', 'divination',
Crithomancy
is the strewing of meal
over sacrificial animals
for the purpose of divination.

O that there was such purpose ethereal
in the sprinkling of oatbran
across my morning cereal.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
krithey is usually spelled krithe with a dash over the e to indicate it is pronounced. I think the first syllable sounds krigh-.
