Crutch Poem by Dr Soumya Nambiar

Crutch

A constant need for approval,
For validation that isn’t forthcoming.
Is praise key to survival?
Or is it just ego that it’s feeding.

Why does it matter what others think?
Are you too weak to believe in yourself?
Breathe and take a step back from the brink,
Put that craving back on the shelf.

Caring about another’s opinion,
Opens the door to thoughtlessness.
Where is your pride, your gumption?
Clear your head, sweep out this mess.

That hole, the one you think cannot be filled,
Maybe examine its contents anew.
It contains the best of you, slowly killed,
The destroyer of your world is you.

Maybe its time to finally stop.
