Pretty Pink Striped Trumpets
Green foliage nesting floret stem
A promise of foursome sung
Thus began we an affaire 'de couer'
Harvested bulbs afar off land
Secreted six inch pot on city ledge
To lend her beauty and grace
For a bleary soul dried in city race
Bravely in a stunted square, grew
lush fronds barely four or five
Arching down long green leaves
Cascading O'er my windowsill
Thirsting sunlight, shaded high-rise
Wind beaten in silence tall
Remembering flowering neighbors
And nectar seeking butterflies
Holding dear Ole memories
In buried genes, a proud heritage
Amaryllis masquerading as lily's
Open to challenges tropics muggy
Fragrance notes lady, gently light
Pallette of colors wide
trashy orange, rusty red
to virgin white, flushed milky wine
Home, fairground, lakes and dry beds
Brave heart - tough bunch of mongrels
Unfurls trembling a lone heady floret
On a curious long arched nape
Grew buds, so vibrant a hue
till the head with pride, pink
Unfurled out swung striped trumpets blew
In four directions four banners swung
Nodding an exultant wink, her loveliness
Introduced herself as Cri-nums
Lunged a hug n a kiss to awestruck me
Grateful, this golden dawn of tranquility
