Currently, I'm wasting my precious time
Scanning collections of trivial junk.
I wonder, sometimes, how many out there
Fill all the internal, empty spaces
By doing exactly the same. Constant
Longings for childhood nostalgia are now
Expertly understood by an array
Of applied psychologists and, ever
So conveniently, commercialised.
Crude capitalists seem to feed on lack,
Like cold - eyed vultures surveying their prey.
I suppose, in many ways, it's a form
Of social control: 'pleasing' servitude.
Even children are now neatly branded
Andpackaged as 'evolving consumers'.
With these curious things in mind, is it
Any surprise that our societies
Are so messed up? ! ! I predict that things will
Get even worse, unless there is a marked
Change in consciousness. Only time will tell.
Just look at McDonalds over the years and look what they've done alone to subliminally win over parents and their children alike with tv lovely to look at expensively produced ads and not forgetting that ever smiling cute Ronald. Even an ad showing their staff litter collecting. And don't get me started on The House Of Mouse....Disney! ! Five stars Dominic and a poem that indeed food for thought....without the fries,
This poem has not been translated into any other language yet.
I would like to translate this poem
Thanks for your perceptive comments Shaun. You have provided several pertinent examples of the kinds of rampant, consumer capitalism that impact on us all. Personally, I'm ambiguous about Disney. I love many of the films (especially the older ones) but as for Disney World and the rest, they leave me cold. Perhaps, if I were still a kid, I might have a different take on it..who knows? !
