Dame Vera Lynn - End Of An Era

A tribute by Deanna Samuels - 19th June 2020

She was always there

The glue that kept that generation together
The glue that kept all those memories in store
The glue that held lives in place
The glue that pulled those lost, back again

She was there to keep so many spirits up
She was there to give thoughts of home
She was there to give loved ones hope
She was there to comfort and sooth

A voice that went over the air waves
A voice that gave our troops strength
A voice that sung like a nightingale
A voice of peace, a voice of tranquility

She was there for them all
She kept them straight and tall
She was the catalyst of what was right and true
She was each soldier's strength while he lay cold and blue

She was the forces sweetheart
Singing lines of comfort, hope and love
Thoughts of home, white cliffs, memories
She sang through the blitz, held the peoples together

Her life of ten decades and three more years
Left her body, left her soul, her memory will be forever more
Her job well done for those very few who yet remain
She to be at rest, to meet again all those gone before
