Daniel 3: The Miracle At Dura Poem by Dr John Celes

Daniel 3: The Miracle At Dura

The King of Babylon had made
A gold image so great,
Whose height was of three-score cubits,
And breadth of cubits six.

He placed it upon Dura’s plain
And called all to worship,
Under the order of the king
On hearing music sound.

And those who failed to worship it
Would cast be in furnace;
So, all came fell down upon knees,
Obeying king’s decree.

The king was told that three young men
Refused to do as bade;
Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego
Were the young person’s names.

They brought the three young men to him
And they were told, ‘obey! ’
But they refuse point-blank and said,
‘Our God saves us surely! ’

The furious Nebuchadnezzar,
Bound all the three firmly;
He had them cast into furnace
Heated seven times more.

And to his horror and surprise,
He saw four men alive;
They seemed to walk without a hurt,
The fourth like Son of God!

The fire had not touched the men,
Not even a hair was singed;
Their clothes remained intact as well;
Unharmed, they walked out neat.

The miracle bemused the king
Who changed his own decree;
All were to worship just the God,
Lord for the young men three.
