Dark Haven (Recommended) Poem by Ridah Ellahi

Dark Haven (Recommended)

my acquaintance
my accomplice
this darkness that i dwell in
my comfort
my sanctuary
this emptiness around me
these walls
these bars
this absence of light
have cut the bird's wings
have disabled her flight
my eyes adjust
to this gloom
i find my safe haven within
alas!
this disruption!
this change!
this ray of light
that slithers
that cuts
through my black blanket
gives me something
something i fear
hope
aware that i'll fall
i still take the leap
and plunge forward
captivated by the radiance
that this ray emits
i let the shackles break
i let my heart fly
i permit myself
to feel alive
but just for a moment
as the light
as the source of my freedom
is once again dissolved
and i am
forever
enveloped in this
Dark Haven
