Dear Coach Poem by Amanda May Moore

Dear Coach

Responsibilities are always torn,
But if I weren’t asleep I could have sworn
I was there putting in a full effort.
I wish you were there so you could have seen
That I work my butt off! And have improved.
But the time has passed and I will not play

Another day for you. I want to play
But my feelings are worn and oh so torn.
My work and effort has made me improved.
For what? Nothing. That is why I have sworn
Not to re-live the worst times I have seen.
So all of my energy and effort

Will not be wasted because the effort
And time was not shown in a shot to play.
I only wish one day you could have seen
A dancer on the field that could have torn
Through the defense, that by the heavens sworn
Not to let me pass. Then see I’ve improved.

To you I will not prove myself improved.
You do not deserve my extra effort.
As of now and forever I have sworn
To simply find another way to play.
So as to not have my heart hurt and torn
From a devout player’s struggle un-seen.

Oh well, too bad I will have never seen
Your face with a grin at my game improved.
I only hope that your heart feels as torn
As mine, for your lack in coach’s effort.
As I do continue practice and play,
I will “leave it on the field, ” this I’ve sworn.

By the time I am done I will have sworn
To myself a dozen times that you’ve seen
Only a “dainty dancer” that can’t play
Until her turn. Your choice never has improved.
A sub, what’s that? If you put in effort
To sub in people that have worked and torn

Every muscle sworn to be improved;
Then you would have seen the extra effort.
Of one who plays with heart that is un-torn.
