Dear Land Poem by Iquo Umoh

Dear Land

Sweat pouring down from her face
With the sun shinning in full glare
On a desert laid so bare
Without a tree to serve as shed

Glancing about where she stood
Thinking of what to do
Her vision blurred too soon
As her body came to a swoon

Sudden music and dancing is heard
As barely her head was laid
To the sound of people rejoicing
As though from warfront returning

Welcomed is she to the land
That she thought of in the past
A heart filled with joy
Like a tongue quenched of thirst

Lo and behold in full glare
Shone the sun in full stare
When she opened her eyes to see
That she was not there.
