Death Poem by Chinthamani Nair

Death

Without a word, where did you disappear?
Leaving me like a fish out of water?
All alone, with no body to care,
In the encircled darkness, i could only stare.

Man with a strong will, an unrelenting fighter,
Attained everything in life, you fought for!
Gave me a promise, 'to death, i shall never surrender'
Kept your word, conquered death twice before.

You will come out clean, once again,
Against all odds, i hoped, in vain.
But you straight went into a coma,
Perplexed, hapless, i stood in trauma.

Unable to watch you struggle to respire,
I ran out side, began to weep and shiver.
Next moment i was near you, anxious,
Lest you opened your eyes, became conscious.

In my mind, our life unfold,
From the day you took my hand,
The sorrows, joy and the hardships we faced,
Our kids, and the dreams we shared.

In all possible ways, i tried to wake you up,
Slowly realized, i have to give up.
The thought itself made me scare,
Though i knew i cant afford to bewilder.

Gather all strength to face the situation,
You have no body, myself, i did, caution.
bills to be settled, arrangements to be made,
Everything up to me, me alone to decide.

Did you forget you used to ask me,
'What will you do, my dear, if i die,
Nothing can take me away from you,
Unless and until i wish and agree to.'

The thoughts in your mind, till the last,
Though weak and scared, i know, you tried your best'
For you were calling out, talking to the kids and me,
Till you finally resigned and slipped into a coma.

Doctor formally announces your demise,
I pray to God, your soul rest in peace.
You are free from the ordeals of this life,
No regrets, I fulfilled my duties as a wife.

Bestowed all the responsibilities on my shoulder,
You departed from this world for ever.
My path ahead is full of thorns and stones,
How long i have to tread alone, god only knows.

Still i am worried about you,
Where and how you live, i have no clue,
My only console is you are with God,
Who will care for you better than i did.
