Death Poem by Nic Cross

Death

(My first attempt at a sonnet)

darkness surrounds me and consumes my world
i try so hard to break free, so hard to fight
but no matter how hard i try, i cannot find the light
and then my life flashes before me, all my mistakes unfurled
i try to move but i am paralyzed in this dream world
it closes in, pictures flying faster as my throat goes tight
i see my whole life, so much wrong, so little right
a bright hole opens up bellow me and in i am hurled
as i fall i begin to scream, i twist and writhe in agony
what is this force i cannot see tearing at my flesh
as i hit the ground i see the imag of the reaper, my face grows pale
i try to scream and scramble away, but he coms ever closer to me
he picks me up and crushes my throat, all i can do is flail and thresh
and so he drags me forever, into the fiery depths, and through deaths veil
