Debts Paid Forward Poem by Melody McKinstrie

Debts Paid Forward

Debts of gratitude
Can we ever pay
What we truly owe?
We can thank others
Profusely
And repeatedly
Would that settle
The lopsided score?
Perhaps some.

Then there is
The notion
Of paying it forward.
It works in
A multilinear fashion
One person
Can be the impetus
But it can then be spred
With branches
Like a tree
Or out like
A pyramid
But the initial person
Is perhaps the fulcrum
And not the apex
Because it would be
Started from
The ground up.

Yes, debts that we owe
For just being around
Certain folks
Who give of themselves
Or their resources.
We can say thanks
And that is start
If we realize just
How lucky we are
And see others
Could use that
Luck paid forward.
