Blinking Eyes Poem by Melody McKinstrie

Blinking Eyes

Rating: 5.0

Blinking Eyes

Time did not fly,
It just passed
While we had
Blinking eyes.

Blinders were not necessary,
As only flashes were seen
And those now encompass
Our memories.

What we remember
Could we perhaps
Tweak those images?
And only remember the good times?

Not if we are honest.
Not if we care for those who we have lost.
Not if we want those lessons
And the victories
Which were so hard fought
For along the way there were bound to be missteps.
We needed to overcome.

So blink if you cannot keep your eyes open.
Blink if you need to get rid of some dust
And need the liquid help of tears
To get through some rough stuff.

Blink and take a deep breath,
Regain your footing.
Time will not honor you.
It just is there
For you to participate.
You are the one that makes sense of time.
In the blink of your eyes.
Make it count
Not just the days or years
But the images that you collect
When your eyes are clear.

What a Wonderful, majestic poem this is! It just lifts us off our feet and we are carried away by the depth and beauty of its thoughts and form. The treatment of Life, Time, Images, Memories that go with it, treated in a most original and spectacularly unforgettable way. Just magnificent! Thank you for this gift!
