December Days Poem by Kevin Eickmeier

December Days

It moves in like a cloud that blocks out the sky and shows only night.
The light is gone from these December days.
The longing is back with a vengeance, and there's no one to comfort the woes that grip my spine like the monkey on the back of a fiend.
It's the never knowing what's in the dark that makes most of us hide from shadows. That same fear pulls me to my feet to rush into the darkness.
There's a light hiding in the darkest of places that can comfort the most uneasy of souls.
I hunt that light like a lion stalks its prey.
There's a belief in me that the light is all I ever needed, that if I could only find it all of this will make sense.
The fear and confusion will melt away and allow my gaze to penetrate the darkness, and see the peace and beauty I knew only as a child.
My quest goes on, and I see no end as I journey into the darkness to find the light that will one day guide me home....
