Decolonising My Heart Poem by Pen Anthony

Decolonising My Heart

She had poked in the dark
Found him, a lost soul
Held his hand
Leading him to the light
He'd given up
Then she showed up

He resisted not
As she'd soon give up
This had played out many a times
That he knew the script by heart
She'd go fishing for his heart
But get tired of pulling the line

He'd retreat
To the dark alley
His heart called home
He'd submitted to the belief
That some souls
Had no mate

So when she never gave up
He knew not what to do
When he subconsciously warmed up to her
The feeling was strange
When she began filling his heart
He knew not what to do

She'd grown onto him
This scared the life out of him
He'd walked this road before
He'd been left with
A punctured heart
Slowly killing him
But he'd stayed alive by
Not allowing self to take the road again.
