Deep Dark Blues Poem by Dale Totten

Deep Dark Blues

My heart skipped a beat
I felt so complete
That day you said that you loved me.

I was lifted so high
In my joy I could fly
And I flew for the whole world to see.

I crash landed the day
You ran away
With someone I thought was a friend.

Right then and right there
I knew life was unfair
And my heart would never mend.

To the dark I ran
My heart in my hand
Not wanting to show my emotion.

Tears flowing again
Who'd understand
When I love, I love with devotion.

So I'll stay here in the dark
Nursing my heart
Don't come around here no more.

Deep dark blues do not end
So my heart will not mend
I'm staying behind this closed door.

I'm not running away
I just don't want to play
A game that doesn't have rules.

Nobody wins
When it begins
And you end up with deep dark blues.
