Demise And Desire Poem by Christos Menelaou

Demise And Desire

City of angels and demons alike
In my home of ages, on this rainy night
I pay my last tribute, to all we have lost
And tell of our story, of fire and frost

City of cages, that confide my loss
The last spike you nail, tonight on my cross
A place you have chosen, for your final treat
An iron-steel bridge, with trains at my feet

A forsaken place, that few now remember
The ones that were forced their love to surrender
All those that could not in their heart compromise
And willingly chose, with this their demise

A curse and a blessing, this city of old
Stripped me of all, I held dear in this world
Gave me a reason, a meaning to live
Then crumbled upon me, with no room to breathe

Idle she watched, as I burned in lies
The flames werent melting, her heart made of ice
Yet trying to salvage what mattered the most
The children inside us, that somehow got lost

She carefully hid, in her sleeve an ace
Calling my bluff, the stakes then she raised
This was not in my dreams, but despair and desire
Thousands of silent screams, as I burned in her fire

City of rules I no longer abide
You know of my story, you help me decide
In your trembling hands, my feelings have shaped
As guardian angels and demons deranged

Accept your defeat and walk out with pride,
Its time to retreat, you’re done with this fight
For now talks your reason, your sense not a dream
Enough is enough, my angels now scream

And what of your friendship? The trust you two share?
That eternal bond, The scars you both bear?
Isnt that what you fight for? My demon replies
Your heart knows the way..she cant be your demise

My fate has decided, carnation in hand
To all we have lost in this forsaken land
As railways scream and trains pass me by,
I pay my last tribute, where love chose to die…

Now welcome me brothers, as one of your own,
I too fell from grace, as time has moved on
Nothing but shadows, of moments gone by
That is what we are since love chose to die...

Embrace me now brothers, unravel my pain
Whats worse than to lose your woman in vain
Is finding out how, much exactly you know
About her and yourself, how little, how low..

Tried my best, to ''watermark'' in these few lines that deep, unspeakable suffering one feels, at times of great loss..Let this poem be mine, but also your baptism, regeneration and initiation in a new state of mind.. Unfortuantely when things alter for the worse they do so spontaneously..And as i decide to post once more on these forums, clearly rejecting my sense of injury after so long, i find myself happily suprised as i sense the injury itself disappears...
