Democracy Poem by Koffi B Sossou

Democracy

Democracy,
Democracy, Democracy-
Hear them singing:
The poor, the weak, the rich, the strong,
All singing Democracy.

From the waking of the sun,
To the stillness of the night,
And in their deepest sleep,
All singing Democracy.

The child, the man, the young, the old,
Facing the same trial, before the same judge,
Within the same silent courtroom,
All singing Democracy.

The led, the leader, the ledger, the plow,
The student, the teacher,
From the classroom to the crowd,
All singing Democracy.

The song they sing is voiceless,
Certain, and loud.
What a strange, true democracy:
Where breath and title cease to be,
In death's eternal harmony.
