Democracy Is Under Threat Poem by Ojeikpo Elijah

Democracy Is Under Threat

Oh, democracy, once shining strong and bright,
Now under threat, its flame begins to dim,
The people's power, now fading from sight,
As falsehoods spread, our faith begins to slim.

Corruption creeps, like shadows in the night,
Elected leaders, veiled in dishonesty,
Their actions speak, of greed and selfish might,
The pillars of democracy, in jeopardy.

For what is freedom, without fair voice?
And what is justice, without equal rights?
If silence falls, and fear becomes our choice,
Our democracy fades, into endless nights.

But fear not, for we hold the key,
To unlock the chains, and set democracy free,
Let not our voices, be silenced by fear,
For democracy thrives, when people speak.

Casting their votes, with wisdom and clear,
And holding leaders accountable, when they seek,
To harm the rights, of those they represent,
For democracy is not a privilege, but a right.

A voice for all, without fear or relent,
A beacon of hope, in the darkest of night,
So let us rise, united and bold,
To defend democracy, with all our might.

For only together, can its flame hold,
And shine forever, in freedom's light,
Let not democracy, be under threat,
For it is the voice, of the people's bet.
