Depressed Darkness Poem by Marien Jacobs

Depressed Darkness

It’s a pitched dark passage,
Leading towards a dark, dark cave,
A pit deep down…
You know you won’t get out soon…
If ever!

You’re scared…
Realizing what lies ahead.
Things you though long ago conquered,
Now here again….
It’s desire to destroy.

You don’t want to be here…
You watch the minutes pass,
Unable to do a thing!
Confused to death…
Not knowing what goes for what.

Who are you really?
Where do you fit in?
You go through the day,
Only thinking of how to escape…
Be free…. Be gone!

You’re so confused…
Can’t control your thoughts…
You just want to be no more,
To vanish…evaporate into nowhere,
With no existence.

You watch the time pass by…
Things; people come and go.
You see, you hear…
Yet it never register…
Everything a dim, far off picture.

You’re present, yet you’re not here,
You watch every step,
A disastrous mess.
If only you could know…
If only you can find a way out!

Darkness…
It’s all around you…
It enfolds you…
It sucks you in…
Where do you go?

You stretch out a hand,
Hoping for something to touch…
Yet, there’s no one, nothing…
Nothing stable to hold on to…
Nothing, which won’t waver and fall.

You’re so confused…
You dare not trust…
Your breath is speeding.
To find a way out,
Become a Must!

You feel the serpent of destruction
Curled up around your neck….
Squeezing the air from your lungs…
Yet, you’re paralyzed…
You watch the time ticking by.
