Depressed Yet Patiently Hopeful Poem by Kawake Sipelo Vuke

Depressed Yet Patiently Hopeful

There is nothing afflicting in a man's life than losses.
When you have lost everything
And you feel you can't go any further than this.
However, the most oppressive of these
Is when you feel like the Lord has abandoned you.
At this point you have hit rock bottom in the pit of misery;
Hope has escaped you,
And depression has made residence with you.

Maybe accepting defeat is the best way.
Having hope feels like drinking a poison that doesn't kill
But inflicts the most unimaginable pain.
Maybe some things are not worth the patience
If they come at such high mental cost.
If it wasn't for this hope maybe things may have ended differently,
At least without paying the price with my sanity.

We are depressed yet we haven't lost hope.
Patiently, we wait, hoping!
For this is not all that we have
But it is all that we can hold on to.
